17 weeks today!

I am 17 weeks pregnant today! Only 3 to go and I'll be half way there! Wow! So, I thought I'd post an update...

The virus I got in Aspen lasted for about a week. It was really awful and I don't remember being that sick for that long - ever! I finally got some relief last Friday and have been feeling pretty good since then. I lost about 6 pounds initially from the sickness and gained back only about 1. Dr. A said that she isn't concerned, though, and that I'll gain it back when I need to. So, I feel like my weight gain has been pretty good so far during this pregnancy. I can still wear my jeans buttoned up (with a day every now and then that I do break out the bella band if I'm feeling a little bloated) but am starting to see a bump! It seems that the weight I lost was NOT from my belly and all of a sudden last week there it was! It's actually kinda exciting to finally start "looking" pregnant.

Let's see... on Friday MrKLB and I went to look at nursery furniture for the first time. It was a lot of fun! We pretty much agreed on all of the ones we picked out. We found one that was our favorite, but then I went to another store to compare prices on Sunday and ended up finding even more that I liked! So, MrKLB will go back to that store with me and we'll see what we think. After we went shopping we sat around in our nursery and planned out where everything would go. Too fun!

Yesterday, we toured 3 daycares. We're looking for one close to where we live so that it would be convenient for either of us to drop off and pick up. We liked all 3 of them actually, but none jumped out at us as screaming "pick me!" We talked about it a lot more last night and I think we've picked our favorite. I'm going to practice the drive from our house to the daycare in the morning and afternoon just to see how the commute will be and will probably stop back by for another visit before we decide for sure, but at least we have an idea. This is a hard decision!!

So, that's about it on the pregnancy front. Things are kinda boring until we find out the gender in a couple of weeks. I think then we'll be ready to register and start thinking about decorating the nursery, etc. Oh, I get to go see my college roommate in Austin next weekend! She has a little boy that's about a year and a half so it will be fun to spend some time with them. I'm so excited!

16 week OB appointment today

I am 16w2d and saw Dr. A again this morning. I told her how I got sick last week and have been feeling pretty awful ever since. She said it is most likely a virus and is just taking a while to go away because I'm pregnant. She said not to worry too much about the fact that I have no appetite. She said the most important thing is to get liquids and if I can't eat then it's okay. She gave me some more Zofran for nausea and is hoping that if I take that I may start feeling like eating. So, I'm at home again today feeling pretty weak, but feeling a lot better than the past few days so far.

Oh, I've gained back 2 of the pounds that I lost while I was sick. So, I'm still down from where I was but Dr. A said not to worry because I'll probably make it back up.

Anyway, they measured the baby's heartbeat and it was in the 150's which is exactly where it should be. I also had some blood taken for a test related to spinal problems. The next time I go back we'll have our big u/s and find out if we're having a little baby boy or girl! MrKLB and I are very excited to find out! So, only a few more weeks and (hopefully) we'll know!

Our trip to Aspen

We just got back last night from Aspen. It was a good trip for a couple of days, but then I got really sick and had to go to the ER. That was NOT a fun experience. I was concerned about the baby after being sick for so long and getting dehydrated. My blood pressure was too high for pregnancy and I was a mess. I got 2 bags of fluids and some anti-nausea medicine and they hooked me up to some oxygen. I also had an ultrasound and even though their machine was crappy and you couldn't really see anything, he could see that the baby was moving around so things seemed fine. I was relieved. I had the best doctor and nurse there... they really were great!

So, after a couple of hours I started feeling better and we went back to the condo. Then I started feeling worse again. The car ride triggered it and it pretty much lasted all day, even with the anti-nausea medicine they prescribed. Ugh. Well, long story short it seems to have finally subsided and I made it home yesterday - very thankfully! I was able to sleep entirely through the night last night, which is a big improvement. I also finally at some chicken soup, which is the first thing I've eaten in 2 days! I weighed myself this morning and I was 6.5 pounds lighter than when we left on Wednesday morning! If I weren't pregnant I'd think that was a cool benefit of being sick... as it is, though, it concerns me. I already have an appointment with my OB for Thursday, so I guess I'll get checked out then.

I most likely had some sort of stomach virus, but the doctor said it was made worse by the high altitude and the fact that I'm pregnant. It was a pretty scary experience and I don't remember the last time I felt that awful, but I'm happy to finally be feeling better now. I'm still really weak and barely able to eat, but I am definitely getting better.

Baby pics

I thought I'd post a couple of the great pics we got when we went in for our NT scan. I was 12w6d and I think they told me I was measuring 13w3d or so at the time. So, still just slightly ahead of schedule but not enough for them to need to change my due date or anything. Here you go...

And this one is my favorite because s/he is waving at us!

Blog Changes

I have been making some changes to my blog today and archiving some old posts. So, for those of you that may get a feed from me, I apologize if you got a ton of updates! Anyway, probably more changes to come as I play with the layout, etc. I have some pics from my NT scan that I want to upload soon, so look for those this weekend!

14 weeks - met our new OB

Today we met with our new OB and we loved her! So, that is a relief! Basically I had my first full OB workup today which included urine tests, blood tests, a pap smear, and internal exam. Not really fun, but whatever. I got to ask a bunch of questions of Dr. A but I'm sure I'll have more later. Anyway, I'll go back in 2 weeks for a 16 week appointment where I think they take some more blood to check for some sort of spinal problems. Then, we'll go in for our 20 week appointment and have an ultrasound and find out if this little baby is a boy or a girl! I'm going to be really anxious to find out by then, because I've been holding out on buying things until I know what we're having! :)

I also got the call this morning with the results of our bloodwork that went with the first trimester screening. Everything looked great and our odds are 1 in > 10k for down syndrome and the trisomy. So, that's great news! They told me that the numbers for someone my age before the screening are 1 in 63 for downs and 1 in 1300 or so for trisomy. That downs number sounds really high, though! I'm glad I didn't know that before!

So, now I need to start thinking about daycare and eventually we need to interview pediatricians, but I guess that one can wait a little while. I'd like to make some decisions about daycare and at least be on some waiting lists by the end of January. We'll see how that goes!
